Miele's a work horse September 7, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
My Miele is now 25 years old, used almost daily, and except for the cord not rewinding for the last couple years, it has never broken down. Yes, I did give much thought to spending nearly $500.00 back in the early 80's, but I have never regreted it.
amazing vacuum September 2, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought the Miele Callisto vacuum a few days ago and I've nearly filled the bag. The amount of suction is truly amazing. What I really love is how close the power nozzle gets to the walls and to the furniture. My carpet and the stairs have never been cleaner. The swivel on the parquet brush makes cleaning my hardwoods effortless. I always felt like I was leaving a lot behind when I used my Swiffer. I have two cats, two little boys, and two people with asthma in the family. I can't believe I've lived without a Miele for so long. It's expensive, but well worth it. Really.
Great Sucker August 13, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
My second Miele vacuum purchase.
My first was a canister which I spent about $500 or so on ten years ago. It was a fantastic vacuum - it would clean without leaving behind a vacuum "odor" like every other vacuum I had had. The motor and suction remained consistent, and the bags were easy to change. It lasted until I accidently pulled it down a flight of stairs and the hose snapped off. It was a model without an electric brush attachment - it just had the non-electric "turbo" brush.
My new Miele - this model - has the electric brush and what a difference it makes. The electric brush works great. The differrence is night and day compared to the old turbo brush on my carpets. Most of my home is wood flooring, but we have a few "persian-like" area carpets and the turbo brush just didn't cut it - even on such short "piling."
That is my simple two cents - if you can afford it, go for a machine such as this with the electric brush if you must vacuum capeting at all. Miele's are generally fantastic all around - little argument there. If you don't have carpeting, go for the cheapest Miele canister you can find. Howvever, if you need clean carpets, you really do need an electric brush and not just a non-electric turbo brush.
Very Good But Expensive August 5, 2008 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
There are already quite detailed reviews, so I will simply add my pros and cons.
Pros:
1. Excellent build quality. The quality of material and workmanship is high and exceeds that of most other vaccums. Presumably, this will mean durability. Supposedly it will last 10-25 years. That remains to be seen.
2. Good (and adjustable) suction power. Seems to work well with carpets and hard floor.
3. Hygenic sealed design, filtration (HEPA) and bag system.
4. Ingenius, "crush-proof" powered hose system that allows the use of powered brush attachments.
5. Simple yet excellent wheel design that allows smooth movement of the canister itself.
Cons:
1. High price: $850, that is enforced by an exclusive distribution system with dealers. Enough said.
2. Confusing, minimalist manual that does not explain much of anything regarding the machine. The user has to discover some of the functions by trial and error.
3. "Ergonomic" handle, which turns out to be more straining than a conventional straight handle/tube system.
4. Weight. Unlike many other canisters, the overall weight is high. Because the powered tube and brush heads are also on the heavy side, handling suffers.
5. Inconvenient brush head change system. The powered brush head used for carpets and the "parquet floor" brush have to be removed and switched manually. Since there is no onboard compartment for the parquet floor brush, this means dragging along another accessory while vacuuming, then having to bend down and up every time the user changes cleaning surfaces.
Overall, it is a well designed, if expensive, vacuum that functions well and should prove to be very durable. A few ergonomic oddities and a useless manual prevent it from becoming perfect.

Bought this Miele S5280 Callisto Galaxy Vacuum and it is incredible. It has all the German engineering you would expect and performance exceeds all expectations.
