Chilly and rich desserts of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet seem all the more special when they are made in a home kitchen. While this Cuisinart frozen dessert maker is designed to look like the old-fashioned models that require plenty of rock salt and ice and need to be hand cranked, it is actually completely automatic for ease of use and less waiting. The ice cream maker's base is shaped like a bucket, complete with a carrying handle. The freezer bowl and mixing arm fit within the base and are both removable for cleaning. The transparent locking lid lets cooks watch the maker in action and has an open spout for loading milk, eggs, sugar, and other fresh ingredients right into the freezer bowl without spilling them all over the counter. With a flip of the power switch, the arm starts mixing and properly aerating the ingredients for perfect results every time. Little extras, such as nuts, chocolate chips, or chunks of fruit can be added during the mixing cycle. The heavy-duty motor blazes along to produce 1-1/2 quarts of a favorite frozen dessert in just 20 minutes. However, there is no need to dip into the dessert right away: the bowl can go into the freezer for a while and its double insulation keeps ice cream or sorbet smooth and creamy until serving time. The ICE-25 comes with a book of instructions and recipes (including old standbys, such as Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, and mouth-watering specialties, such as Dark Chocolate Cherry Sorbet) and is covered by Cuisinart under a three-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

I am so pleased that I purchased this. It makes great tasting, all natural ice-cream in 20 minutes. The recipes are easy, and so is the machine. What more could you ask for?

The first time I made ice cream with the Cuisinart ICE-25 the mix only partially froze and the ice cream was inedible. The second time I tried to make ice cream the paddle seized up and broke the plastic stops on the cover. This product is a cheaply made overpriced piece of junk. It is a rip off of the Donvier hand cranked design that work will for me. Don't buy this product. The Cuisinart name is now mud and I will never buy their products again.

This machine is extremely noisy - which is not that unusual for ice cream makers, but only makes so-so ice cream, yogurt and sorbet. The consistency is consistently poor.
Consider it a pricey novelty, not a small appliance you will want to use. I have my doubts about the longevity of the mixing blade, which is a very flimsy plastic piece. The rest of the unit is of more solid construction.
