Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
A kitchen workhorse, you're sure to find a variety of uses for this bowl in brushed stainless steel. The 6-quart size is perfect for mixing up batters, making bread dough or as a convenient and tasteful serving bowl. Dishwasher safe.

Amazon.com Review
The first bowl you'll reach for when whipping up a birthday cake or a batch of frosting, this stainless-steel bowl is especially useful when working with ingredients that should stay chilled. Simply pop the bowl in the freezer for a few minutes before using, and your cream will whip much more quickly. The sturdy lip of the bowl makes a firm grip easy to maintain. This bowl is really designed to be a true kitchen workhorse. It holds up well to a variety of temperatures, and you can pop it in the dishwasher as necessary. --Jill Lightner

5 out of 5 stars Good, solid mixing bowl   April 27, 2008

I have a set of 3 different size Amco mixing bowls and use all of them frequently. This is the largest one I have and works great for mixing up meatloafs, doughs, large batches of cookies, etc. All the Amco bowls are very solid, commercial grade and stainless steel, with a nice edge for gripping and a large flat surface on the bottom so they don't move around much when mixing in them. They really hold up well over time (I've had mine for 5 years now) and go through the dishwasher if need be without a problem.

5 out of 5 stars Unusual use of This Product   September 3, 2007

This product was recommended to me on a site about toilet training your cat. The bowl works very well for this purpose, but I recommend taping the bowl to the toilet so it doesn't slide around. The excellent construction of the bowl makes a resounding clang if the bowl falls into the toilet and this is not helpful when encouraging your cat to try something new.

I'm assuming that after I run the bowl through the dishwasher a few thousand times it will be an excellent mixing bowl. Until then, it is a very sturdy and highly recommended tool for cat training.

5 out of 5 stars All around winner   March 12, 2007
This bowl is so useful in the kitchen. If only it could go in the microwave it would be the only bowl I would ever need. I use it frequently for melting chocolate for brownies over a saucepan of simmering water. It is the perfect size for mixing up a batch of cookies or biscuits. The stainless steel is easy to clean and beautiful. The rim is wider on these bowls than on other brands of stainless bowls I have had in the past and makes the bowl easier to handle. You may find less expensive bowls at the big discount retailers, but you will not find the quality of the Amco bowls.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect bowl for me   December 5, 2006
I have owned this bowl for 2 years, and absolutely love everything about it. It's sturdy, but fairly light weight which makes it easy to manuever when turning the bowl or when pouring or scooping batter or dough out of it. I have a very high speed electric hand mixer, and the size and shape of this bowl work well to prevent splatter with cake batter. I bought this bowl for my sister, who is also thrilled with it. I plan to buy one for my mother as well, who has arthritic hands and needs something easy to grip and handle.

3 out of 5 stars Decent bowl, except the capacity is wrong.   March 27, 2006

I should've listened to the previous reviewer. I'm not sure how these bowls are normally measured, but even though it claims a 6-quart capacity, in my tests using a liquid measuring cup, this bowl only holds up to 19 cups (4.75 quarts) before spilling over, which of course is an impractical level to fill a bowl. So 4 quarts is probably more accurate, and even then I'd be worried about mixing stuff over the edge depending on what's in it.

In spite of this, I've happily used it to mix dough and fillings, and as part of a makeshift double boiler with a 3qt pot. It's a sturdy stainless steel mixing bowl with a flat bottom and a brushed metal appearance, nothing special. It doesn't have a rubber bottom like some brands, but you can always put a rubber mat or damp kitchen towel under it if that bothers you. Just make sure you aren't actually planning on putting more than a gallon of stuff in it at one time.
