Verdict Buy it, but use it for more than making risotto.
Long form This is a wonderful tool. I don't think I've ever used it to make risotto, but I've used it for just about everything else. I got mine from a kitchen supply store after breaking a similar (but lower quality) tool. I have no fear of ever breaking this one. Mine's about two years old and still going strong. The build quality is much higher than the average wooden kitchen utensil. Of all the things that typically live in a tangled canister on the counter this is the one I wouldn't want to be without.
When I found it listed on Amazon I was first surprised to find that was marketed for single purpose when it has so many uses, and then surprised to find that it is 13' long. Thirteen inches sounded huge; however, after bit of measuring I found that 13' is actually an average size for this sort of thing. The back side of the neck of the utensil is stamped "Mario Batali" which I don't particularly like. Overall it's great!
Mario Batali Risotto PaddleJune 24, 2008 This is a nice paddle. I use it for more than rissoto. When cooking anything that might stick to bottom of the pot this paddle allows you to easily scrape the bottom ie soups etc.

The contours of the risotto paddle are perfect! Its weight provides a good balance and it feels natural in your hands. I would stir my risotto with anything else!
