 very poor considering all the hype January 15, 2008
I bought this for a gift after having a very reliable mustek dv 40000 my mum has one too for 3 years and we have never had any problems. I took a long time to find a camera that took both still and video images. I thought with all the spec on this new one I wouldn't be disappointed. How wrong I was. Pixelated images on zoom, video play back had very poor audio, voice recording audio had the same problem colour of images indoors was washed out without flash and too strong with flash I am really disapointed and now the recipient will be late with a birthday present, didn't bother trying music it's going straight back to the shop.

This camcorder needs to much light for indoor recording. The pictures are OK with the flash. I will spend a bit more money for a better lux rating on a multipurpose camcorder next time.

Poor Video and Still Images August 10, 2006

I purchased Mustek's DV12M the other day and the images were acceptable at 1:1 ratio. However, when the zoom went to 2X or greater then the video and the still photos began to show large blocks, or squares in the picture.
At 10X the images were a total blur, both video and still photos. The plastic covers were hung with a single plastic strap, and the covers barly stay on. If you don't intent to use the zoom at all, the camera is OK.
Needless to say I was not impressed with its performance. Also, low light levels won't produce a video or photo you can recognize.

As a previous owner of the Mustek dv3000,2500, and dv4500
this 12m keeps a professional look to it.
At steves digicam forum you can keep your fun going . Improvements are needed and they are low light situations, and night time video taking, but having such a device like this on a crountry side or in the wilderness, makes it light weight and not a headache to carry. fits in the palm of your hand with ease, and hides away in a tee-shirt pocket or Purse. pull it out 7 secs you got pics and vids ready for action, over a 30 sec pro camcorder.
tapeless and 2 hours of batery life is a fine way to go grrab a spare and your set.
Compitions would be your Digilife and creative labs Mustek is dedicated to the Northern Region happy trails.
