Far Cry 2 is set in a fictional region of Africa where you are caught between two rival factions at war. The Ubisoft team spent a lot of time filming and photographing in Africa to get all the details of the landscape and native wildlife. The result is a huge gameplay area that is 50 square kilometers, taking players into and out of the jungle and savannah. Wild animals such as zebras, buffalo, gazelle are encountered during the game, with both players and enemies allowed to interact with them. Far Cry 2 features an incredible level of detail and realism, with a minimal in-game interface to detract from immersion. For example, players will need to navigate the world using an in-game map and navigation system, weapons will disintegrate over time, and fires will spread and propagate. Each of the actions a player takes is reflected in the environment and changes the content of the game.  Great game!! November 30, 2008
This is a great great game. It is an original shooter with lots of different things you can do other then the main mission. Yes this game does have bugs but nothing too big. Buy this game!!!
Open World, Hours of Gameplay November 29, 2008
If i could draw up a perfect game, with regards to my preferences in video games, this would be it. Open world gameplay, literally 50+ hours of gameplay(a "far cry" from the call of duty series' less than 10 hr. campaigns), and solid first person shooter mechanics make this one of the best first person shooters in a long time. THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST CAMPAIGN I HAVE EVER PLAYED! Boxed with the game is a multiplayer portion and the amazing and vast Map Editor. The Editor allows your creativity to flow. The developers give you nearly all the tools they had to create your own unique levels and share them online with others to play in. The multiplayer portion is vast, from capture the diamond(like capture the flag) to uprising(follow the team captain to capture 3 strategic pts. around the map then assassinate the opponents captain), and standard TDM and DM. Some may not appreciate the open world or length of play this game offers, but for some gamers this is heaven and i highly recommend this title.

I finished Far Cry 2, including most of the side missions. The guys that gave it 1-star reviews only played it for an hour or two. My played time was about 40 hours.
The graphics and the environmental sounds in this game are stellar. It's a full world, with day and night, animals (zebra, buffalo, gazelles, chickens, goats, and other flying birds), weather (shifting wind that picks up before a rainstorm), and fire that spreads and burns things. In this world, you can drive cars, Jeeps, trucks, boats and hang-gliders. There are no loading screens as you travel the 5x5 kilometer map.
And the parts of the world react to your presence. Animals run. Plants bend over as you walk on them. Grass sways in the wind. When you shoot, you hear your spent brass landing in the grass. Everything has a shadow that moves with it. It's incredibly well-done.
In the PS3 version, there were some graphical glitches, including basically all the things you always hear about: aliasing, tearing, pop-in, and occasionally slowing frame-rate. Overall, graphics were great though and these glitches are familiar.
The game is a shooter. There are dozens of weapons you can unlock. If you don't like the recoil on the starting weapon, you can buy a much better one.
There are about 85 total missions. Many of them can be done more than one way. It IS repetitive though. Generally, you're going to shoot someone or retrieve something or both. I'm not sure what people were expecting here, but it would have been nice if there were more variety.
The story is unexpected. You play a guy in a situation. There aren't a lot of real choices to be made. And it's a civil war so the choices you do have aren't very good ones. It's like Grand Theft Auto in this way -- don't play it if you always have to be the good guy. Overall, I'd say the story is only ok-to-good. But it wasn't predictable and there was a satisfying pay-off at the end.
Good things about the game:

- Malaria - I liked what it added to the story. (Other reviewers thought it was annoying.)
- Swamp boats
- Weapon variety
- Length - 40+ hours is a good value
- Story ending
- Dialogue
- Buddy rescues for continues.
Medium things:
- Voice-acting - Could have been better. It was recorded in South Africa so the accents were authentic. Needed a separate control for voice volume versus shooting volume. And the actors talked a little too fast.
- Few cut scenes - I like cut scenes.
- You don't play a good guy.
- Characters weren't individual enough.
Bad things about the game:
- Soundtrack - it added nothing. It wasn't annoying, but what a huge missed opportunity.
- Getting attacked at every crossroads by guards
- Too much driving (But this isn't as bad as the other reviewers say. It seems bad for the first 60 minutes of the game, but after that you realize you can ride the bus or drive a boat.)
- Mission variety
- Wacky reasons behind some of the missions
- Graphical glitches
- Some bugs - Guys would die and stay crouched. Game crashed a could of times. And vehicles jumped to kill me once or twice. Overall bugs were rare.
- Shooting realistic-looking guys in the face might not be best for kids.
Overall, it was an amazing game. I'm glad I played it. There are games that are more fun. There are games with better stories. There are certainly games with better soundtracks. But this game had a wonderful world and an intriguing story. I hope Ubisoft comes out with another African adventure set in a world like this. I'll buy it.

The Good Things
*One huge world to explore freely (as opposed to individual levels). It is an interesting environment.
*I think it reflects Africa pretty well. Other aspects (shooting, driving, exploring) reflects real-life activities well too. It's a little more realistic than I thought it would be.
*Seems to have a good amount of interactivity. There are quite a few different weapons, vehicles, and items to use, and they are all used very realistically (guns have a recoil, you can use a scope to mark things on your map, and you drive vehicles from 1st person perspective). You even have to fight off malaria with medicine.
*Has an interesting story with okay characters. In fact, part of playing the game involves meeting and gaining reputation with NPCs.
*Good sound design.
*Includes a level editor.
*Includes some multiplayer games.
The Bad Things
*Not a full high-definition game (720p maximum resolution). Graphics are generally okay, but nothing to really scream about.
*A.I. is not the smartest.
*One long opening. Don't expect to shoot things right away.
Even though it looks like an first-person-shooter, it's really more like a role-playing-game. You don't get nonstop action; you get a world to explore and move around in, and then as you go on missions, you run across some bits of action. For the most part, it's the envrionment and the interactivity of it that is interesting. Patient players may enjoy it, but if you're looking to blow stuff up right away, you may be dissapointed.

All FPS fan should remember and still play the overall exiting gameplay of the original Far Cry has given..
In this matter, I should say, Is this a real Far Cry 2? It seems like Far AWAY Cry. You should go long long AWAY to get objective spot through repetitively killing guards again and again. What an odd mixture of FPS and boring part of GTA-like go around in vain. some diamonds are ridiculously difficult to find. Sometimes, too much ambitious move is likely to go deep into the disaster like our freaking economy. Very frustrating addition to the GREAT FAR CRY Franchise...
