3 out of 5 stars Decent but Still no Justice   November 6, 2008
I can't remember a single F1 game that has ever really been great. Some of the PSX games were enjoyable, but never really accurate in some way. No matter who the developer has been on any platform, we tend to get moderate to mediocre games at the best. I would rate this as a solid B.

So what is good here? Well overall the game is pretty enjoyable. The AI is pretty unforgiving, but i think it should be. This is F1 after all. The career mode is rewarding if you get into it like I did. And the graphics are more or less clean. Engine sounds seemed a little too synthesized, but it was nice to hear the noises differ on each car. I particularly liked the Ferrari. The learning curve for a good lap time with the aids off isn't bad. Controls are good, with the Dualshock 3 too. But as always has been, there is much room for improvement.

Sure the lighting effects are decent and the tracks are all nicely rendered, this feels mostly like a PS2 title that has been updated only slightly. The road surfaces need more texture, particularly the curbing, that appears completely flat and should have raised texture. The vibration programming however, is exceptionally good.

The part i don't particularly like, is the lap times, even if you are really spot on and careful, the times don't really get particularly close to the real V8 engine cars. It isn't that the tracks are too long, its that the cars don't feel as nimble as they should or look like they are going fast enough. The speed sensation is ok but its not good enough. We needs more speed. I know it is hard to duplicate the behavior of an F1 car, how would they test one right? Even the F2007 in Gran Turismo wasn't really that spot on if you ask me. But this is what we have.

Also for bonuses, why not pull a Gran Turismo and give us more hidden cars and classic F1 machinery? How about an FW-14 and the like? Or at least an updated roster set and paint livery for newer seasons? For a technical sport full of so much passion, we have never had a game for F1 to show much of this.

Overall, sure I'm disappointed again with F1 Championship Edition, but it still is fun. There is a good challenge, I liked the car development laps over a weekend and the career mode is pretty cool too. But as there has never been any continuity of developers over the years for these games, there has been so very few steady improvements to warrant a memorable release. Us F1 fans are left with something that never really does the sport justice.

Unfortunately yet again, the licensing musical chairs says a totally new developer has the F1 rights for the next game coming out and I'm pretty sure, it won't be much more than a B, at best.

Call it a hunch. But we can hope.

5 out of 5 stars Great!   October 28, 2008
It's the only F1 game that i could find... and it's a blast..

i do the full race from practice sessions to qualifying and then the full race.. i'll sit there for three hours without noticing ...

i love playing with full difficulty so you have to push every lap to keep up, and still remain focused to not tap the wall or another car ... cause when you do a wheel or smoething will come off real easy..

the car settings are great because the proper setup can improve lap times dramatically compared to just driving the stock car.. i initially thought that the game was impossible on hard, but now i have no problem getting pole ... get it! it's fun ...

5 out of 5 stars ONLY AND BEST NEXT GEN F1 GAME   September 17, 2008
FIRST OF ALL LET ME SAY THAT I HAD TO PURCHASE THIS GAME FROM AMAZON COS I COULDNT FIND IT ANYWHERE ELSE (HORRIBLE)
THIS GAME IS NOT JUST THE ONLY NEXT-GEN F1 GAME THERE IS AT THE MOMENT BUT IS THE BEST THERE'S EVER BEEN.
THIS IS SO FAR THE MOST REALISTIC F1 GAME I'VE PLAYED THE GRAPHICS ARE GOOD, THE CIRCUITS ARE AWESOME AND VERY WELL DETAILED. NOT TO MENTION THE CARS.

THE GRAPHICS ARE NOT ALL THAT GREAT BUT THIS GAME WAS RELEASED IN 2007 AND SONY'S CONSOLE WAS STILL TOO NEW TO KNOW HOW TO USE ITS ENTIRE POWER.

THE MOST AMAIZING THING ABOUT THE GAME IS THE REALISM IT HAS, IF YOU DRIVE TOO FAST YOU ARE INEVITABLY GOING TO CRASH OR GET OUT OF THE ROAD, IF YOU HAVE LITTLE GAS LEFT IN YOUR TANK YOU'LL GO FASTER BUT LOSE BALANCE.

MAKING A PITS STOP IN NOT AUTOMATIC, WHICH IS GOOD COS THEN YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION AND SEE WHICH BUTTONS TO PREES SO YOUR MECHANICHS START DOING THEIR DIFFERENTS JOBS (CHANGE THE TIRES, FILL THE GAS TANK, ETC)

IN CONCLUSSION THIS GAME IS THE BEST NOT ONLY BECAUSE IT HAS NO COMPETITION BUT ALSO BECAUSE IT'S A REALISTIC GAME, THAT COVERS EVERY LITTLE DETAIL.

SO FOR F1 FANS WHO OWN A PS3 DONT DOUBT AND BUY THIS GREAT GAME.

FORZA FERRARI

4 out of 5 stars A Realistic Take on Formula One - From Behind the Wheel   September 8, 2008
After spending time with the Grand Turismo series, I became interested in other racing games that provided similar realism, but in racing venues that GT doesn't address. This particular game provides a realistic, and fairly technical, Formula One experience for living room racers. A word of caution, though, as I found that driving competitively in the game can be quite challenging, especially if one wishes to forgo the many aids intended to help novice drivers. That said, if you're looking for a real challenge, terrific graphics, and what it's like to experience an F1 race weekend, then this game is for you. It also supports several different racing wheels, such as the Logitech series, which provide a better driving experience than the standard "six-axis" Sony hand controller.

5 out of 5 stars Great game   July 19, 2008
Great game experience. The programme has several levels of complexity and realism, for the novice to the experienced demanding player. Includes driving in different weather conditions making it a demanding and fun game. Much better than the famous Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Formula One team has been working to clearly improve the game, whereas Gran Turismo team has paid much more attention to graphics than to making their game more realistic and less predictable. I am glad I bought Formula One for my sons and myself. I could not say exactly the same for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, although it is a nice game too, but rather predictable and thus boring for the experienced player.
