I just got the game and its fabulous!! The graphics are nice, the gameplay is excellent, and it's fit for 5 stars! Though, you shouldn't try online until you're more .... experienced or you don't listen to me, and you can get pawned. The thumbs down is, it takes a while for online gameplay, like... getting started, but you need to be patient!! To wrap it up, this is an excellent game, and it's a must-buy
 Rich Gameplay, If a Little Short on Looks November 25, 2008
Story: In the not too distant future, mexican rebels have got their hands on some nukes. Kick butt.
Graphics: This was an early PC port, so running it on a PS3 means there are framerate issues occasionally, and the general level of detail is a little old school. Having said that, the detail in the daylight and atmospheric effects are really nice. There's one level during an approaching desert thunderstorm, and having seen a few when I lived out west, the detail is right on. Entering Juarez by chopper with the skyline littered with AA fire and smoking buildings was stunning.
Play: The gameplay is really the thing, here. Having played Rainbow 6 Las Vegas, I was surprised how much more (way more!) FUN this game engine was. I loved clicking on the right stick while running toward a wall and watching Capt. Mitchell actually slide into a crouch. On some levels, you'll commandeer a 3 man squad (you can mix riflemen w/grenadiers, machine gunners, medics or a marksman), clicking your left stick will bring up each members helmet cam, allowing you to target individual units, or give orders to heal a teammate. Your teammates will also call out targets, AND their location, which is really cool ("Target! By the Blue Car!"). Pulling your right trigger will give you control over various gadgets and support units, ranging from an aerial recon drone to a mobile weapons cache ('the Mule') that comes in handy for healing Capt. Mitchell, or drawing enemy fire or even as a battering ram. In later levels, you can also give orders to a Stryker, a Chopper, an M1A2 Abrams, and even anti-tank air strikes (I'd like to point out that the explosions are particularly loud and satisfying!). There are also shoot em up sequences where you man the minigun on a chopper to take down enemy convoys (fun, but there's an odd lack of ambient sound in these sections, like the sound of the rotors.. strangely absent).
Glitches: I did have this game lock up on me once or twice, during transitional sections, and occasionally, the squad would get hung up on obstacles and not follow the regroup order. Didn't ruin the game, but forewarned is forearmed (make sure your squad is ACTUALLY with you lol).
Other reviewers have commented on the shortness of the single player campaign. I would agree it's a little on the short side, but it's not dull, and the command options and weapons choices make all the scenarios alot more replayable. And there's plenty to do online when you finish it, it's definitely a solid engine for online play.
For under 20$, it's a gameplay bargain, in this reviewers opinion.
Entertaining, and intense, if short October 23, 2008
I was always a fan of the original Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon style of deliberate gameplay. It was always more chess like than simply running around to nameless checkpoints every 2 minutes blasting things like most other FPS games. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (GRAW2) holds true to this and is an excellent and intense, if brief adventure. The gameplay is well thought out. You get a great assortment of weapons and situations, particularly when you lose most of your electronic gizmos and are left to fend for yourself. I think the door gunner levels were fun , and added variety, but weren't particularly challenging. I really enjoyed commanding my squads to pick off mercenary gunners, calling in help from the little bird choppers and shelling from the tanks, you even get to drive them.
Knowing the border area the game is set in extremely well, it is pretty fun to be under fire after a chopper crash at the Juarez square or hunting rooftop snipers in downtown El Paso . I have heard the Mexican government in Juarez wasn't happy with this game, but I think it's enjoyable to be in places I know. This is a refreshing change from the endless Normandy invasions, or drab nameless European country sides from the COD games.
I have not played the Xbox 360 version to compare, but in this PS3 port, the visuals are excellent. Speaking as a photojournalist, the use of light is really amazing and even inspiring at times. Multiplayer is good, but the textures seemed a little smoothed out, probably to reduce latency for network play, but it gets the job done. The single player campaign in GRAW2 is short which really is the game's only real flaw.
Some people will knock GRAW2 for not being Call of Duty 4 but then COD 4 isn't Metal Gear Solid 4 either. Besides, this isn't a bad thing. Though GRAW 2 has its limitations, I think COD 4, though very good action game, still feels more arcade-like than GRAW 2. I slightly prefer this type of gameplay that eschews all out body counts over a more strategic presentation. Here you can run and gun with your team, or do sneak attacks to your preference. GRAW 2 is also a great showcase for how far the series has come since its humble Ghost Recon origins, itself rooted in the now ancient original Rainbow Six play mechanics.
One of the best shooters for PS3 September 9, 2008
Excellent game with a fairly lengthy single player campaign, and no bugs (that I found). Haven't tried multiplayer. One of the few games I own that I've replayed several times. Highly recommended.

As a dire fan of the PS3 and all First Person Shooter games, as well as a hard core gamer, this game was, i'm sorry to say, very dissapointing indeed.. Avoid Fancy Clancy's game -- stay well clear of it and go out there to Gamestop or wherever and buy Call of Duty 4 or GTA IV and unlike this game, you will not regret it. TRUST Me, and many others - Do Not Waste YOUR LIFE AND MONEY ON This Game that looks like it was made for dreamcast and never made it to production...
