 A Great Strategy Game December 1, 2008
Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution is a great console-based strategy game. The game is relatively easy to pick up and start playing. Playing in the "Chieftain" game mode is a good way to learn the game as your advisors show up frequently to explain various aspects of the game. This game is great for people who can sit down and concentrate for awhile. It takes at least a couple hours to build a civilization and achieve dominance. Fortunately, you can save your game, so you don't have to conquer everyone in one sitting.
The graphics in this game are ok - not what you get with some other PS3 games. The sound is also lacking. All of the people in the game speak gibberish. Fortunately, there are text boxes that appear when they speak that tell you what they are saying.
Another Addictive Gaming Device November 29, 2008
I picked this up downloading the demo version from the Playstation network and couldn't stop until it told me I needed to purchase the full version. While I'm sure the purist who has played it on the PC may be dissappointed because the PS3 version is streamlined, I love it this way. I don't have the time to play for hours on end and get into the little details that are required on the PC version. So this version is perfect for what I'm after, which is world supremacy and domination. I like the ability to rename lands I acquire after myself (call me a narcisist) or after my wife, "The Queen". Funny, how sitting on the couch with my wife, I would ask "The Queen" what she would like me to do, "kick butt on another country or sign a treaty". She got into it after that.
Anyway, it's a great alternative game to add to the regular first person shooter or racing games you may have.

As the trailer they have is so attractive, but when I get the game.
99%of the image I saw in the trailer is not in the game.
So, if you are attracted by the trailer and interested in the game.

Nearly Great November 18, 2008
I really wanted to love Civilization: Revolution, and I almost do. It's addicting and fun, but it also has a few snags. There are a number of civilizations you can choose from, all with their strengths and weaknesses. They are not equally balanced, but it is fun to try to win with all of them.
The gameplay is not as sophisticated as I remember the PC version being, although I admittedly haven't played a Civ game since Civ II. For instance, roads can be built instantaneously. You have to focus your cities on either gold or science. There is much less micromanagement, which speeds up the gameplay but also robs the player of some depth. You also run out of time at 3000 AD, although I have never even come close to running out of time. Still, it should be open-ended. Also, there's only one map size and it doesn't feel nearly as large as the old PC version. That can be troublesome, especially at the higher levels.
The difficulty levels range from Chieftan to Deity. I started out low but moved up quickly to Emperor and Deity. Deity is the most challenging, but also the most perplexing. The AI civilizations are able to produce settlers without costing them population deductions, are able to produce unending waves of Legions, and randomly have victories by far, far inferior units. I still prefer to play at the Deity level, but it can be maddening at times.
The graphics are quite nice for a turn-based game, and it seems to run without too many problems. I have played both the 360 and the PS3 versions (I own the PS3 version, and my friend has the 360 version). Both have frozen on me, although I think I would recommend the 360 version if you have that choice to make. The 360 seems to run just a little more smoothly.
While this game might not be everything it could have been, it is still quite enjoyable and is fairly addictive.

I bought Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution for my husband's birthday. Since then, he has conquered the world twice and been eliminated once. He just mentioned last night that he wished there were another version he could buy. My 10 year old son and 13 year old daughter are enjoying it, too. It seems to take a little time to understand all the nuances of the different strategic options but there are helpful hints and the Civilopedia contains some great information. Of course, you have to read them, which seems to be something grown men and children aren't inclined to do!!
