1 out of 5 stars Way Too Fragile   August 27, 2008
0 out of 1 found this review helpful

This phone really does suck. I had it for 6 weeks when the LCD screen cracked, while the phone was in my pocket at work all day! When I contacted Pantech they basically had the attitude of oh well that's too bad. The guy on the phone actually told me that I must have dropped it or something even though I swore that I hadn't. Then they tried to justify it by saying that it has a very large LCD screen. But as far as I know it's not any larger than the iPhone or Sidekick.

Anyway the repairs for the phone came to $100! That's more than I paid for the phone so I decided not to repair it but instead just buy another phone- hopefully one that's not as fragile as the pantech duo.

1 out of 5 stars I wanted to love this phone!   August 7, 2008
This phone was a big disappointment. I've had to replace my phone 3 times due to poor sound quality or the phone just quitting on me. I love the form factor (other than the keyboard being a bit cramped for my big fingers) but the phone itself leaves a lot to be desired. Poor sound quality, drops calls all the time, and unreliable performance. Pass this one up!

3 out of 5 stars dud   August 4, 2008
had the pantech duo for 4 months, broke down, ATT replaced with a refurbished one. No battery life, poor photos, and phone akward to use. Bought 2 ATT Tilt for sons at the same time , much better phone. No problems with Tilt a sturdier phone with better features.

5 out of 5 stars Smartphone - best yet! (non-touch)   July 25, 2008
First, I'm amazed at all the non sequitur comments, i.e. I bought mine on ebay and can't get warranty replacements from AT&T. DUH! Or that the battery life doesn't last as long as my pocket watch. If you're going to have a cellphone for at least a year, then do your homework and look at the mfg. specs. Check the review sites, compare, know what you're getting. If the device doesn't live-up to those expectations, then complain at will. And as one comment mentioned, there are third-party software packages that can improve the experience - thank you Handango :)

Now about the Pantech C810 duo... I don't have one... BUT I have to support several people that do use them. And they love them! Realize that this device is a Windows Mobile smartphone, hence a PDA with calling capability. Yes, batteries are short-lived, but compared to the TILT/TyTN/etc it's probably longer on average. If it locks-up, maybe you didn't close applications and left a bunch of them running in the background (which will bring any device to its knees). I have several users who need access to corporate email / calendar / contacts, but don't want the hassle of blackberries. And they don't care a lot about internet - just enough to check the headlines and weather forecast now and then. So ditching the touchscreen was not a total loss. Besides, those were the same people who hated the on-screen dialpad and wanted a fast (traditional) dialing method. That is the biggest advantage of this device, compared to other smartphones. (And who likes the miniscule buttons on the MotoQ / Blackjack / Palms anyway?) I've had two replacements - one for call stability and another for a poor speaker (distortion, low volume), but in both cases I had the replacement in hand the very next day.

You will not find a better smartphone in such an efficient package anywhere. And if you hate on-screen dialing, but have to have email access & qwerty keyboard, then look no further. So charge the phone when you sleep at night and be happy!

3 out of 5 stars pantech duo   June 25, 2008
The size and keyboard is great. The slide out feature is great. The sound quality is not very good but comes through better when using a hands free device. The picture quality is also not very good. I would only buy again if there was no comparable AT&T product which had the same features because the sound quality thing is a big hurdle to jump....Also I have not been able to get mine to pair with the Jabra SP5050 bluetooth speakerphone....which is too bad because I really like the speakerphone.
