Long Ago and Far AwayJuly 1, 2006 For anyone, especially a Westerner, who visited and enjoyed their time in Macau 10 or more years ago, this book is the next best thing to a time machine. Author Shann Davies' encyclopedic knowledge of Macau's colonial history and virtually every square foot of the enclave make for wonderful reading for anyone interested in the subject. Mark Brazier's photographs are hauntingly beautiful portraits of a subject, that due to development, gaming and otherwise, no longer exists as it was then and can never be brought back.
Anyone with an interest in old Macau will cherish this treasure of a book. It will refresh and keep alive wondrous memories of a magical place where China and Europe first began to live together over four centuries ago.

Macau is such a charming and beautiful place. This book takes me back to my childhood...wandering the streets and shopping in the markets. I love and cherish this book.
